A clear round can do more than deliver a placing. It can establish the rhythm of a week, show where a partnership is sharp and create the confidence required when the fences rise.
At Azelhof in Lier, Belgium, Shk. Rashid bin Ahmed Al Maktoum and Diva DXB began their CSI3* campaign with exactly that kind of performance. In Thursday's 1.45m class, the pair completed the course without faults in 72.10 seconds and finished sixth from 43 starters.
The round that set the tone
The opening result was not built on speed alone. Under a table against the clock, a competitive time matters only after the rails stay up. Rashid and Diva protected the clear first, then placed themselves inside the top six of an international three-star field.
For readers following a combination across a full show, that detail matters. A weekend is not a single result isolated from the rounds around it; it is a sequence of questions. Thursday asked for accuracy at 1.45m. Friday raised the height to 1.50m in a Longines Ranking class. Sunday brought the 1.50m Grand Prix.
Moving up to the 1.50m tests
Rashid and Diva returned on Friday for the 1.50m ranking class, recording eight faults in 79.86 seconds and finishing 52nd among 86 starters. In Sunday's Grand Prix, they completed the course with 12 faults in 81.36 seconds for 39th place from 60 starters.
Those later scores do not erase the opening clear; they place it in context. The pair moved through three different competitive demands in four days, from a top-six result at 1.45m to two 1.50m tracks. That progression is the useful story of Lier: evidence of precision, followed by a direct measure of what the next level required.
Diva DXB: experience and scope
Diva DXB is a 2013 Selle Français mare by Ogano Sitte, with Calvaro F.C. as damsire. Her official FEI record shows an active campaign at ranking and Grand Prix level with Rashid, including recent starts up to 1.60m.
The partnership's calendar reflects a deliberate international programme. Lier followed CSI4* competition in Opglabbeek earlier in August, where the pair contested the 1.60m Grand Prix. Each appearance adds another layer of information: how the mare responds across venues, how the combination absorbs a larger track and where a clear round can become a platform rather than an endpoint.
Shk. Rashid bin Ahmed Al Maktoum is a current Vainqueur Cheval sponsored athlete. The relationship is disclosed for transparency. The photograph comes from Vainqueur's authorised archive and is not identified as being from Lier.
